Smart Women Adopt

There has been a hint of an idea of an theory running around my head. I have done some searches and can not find any evidence but ....

Are women who adopt smarter then those who don't?

This idea came to me while I was listening to an NPR report on Cathie Black, the president of Hearst Magazines and author of "Basic Black"
http://www.amazon.com/Basic-Black-Essential-Guide-Getting/dp/0307351106 . She adopted her children. I work for Karla Norsworthy, Vice President of Software Standards at IBM. She is one of the brightest VPs I have worked for and also an adoptive mom. Other smart, successful women I know who have adopted include: Sandy Carter (VP of SOA Strategy), Diane Jordan, Kim Howe, and many more.

So those examples are only antidotes but an interesting thought. It is also a great way to do some name dropping for women I respect.

Where to find motivation!!

I would think that living longer, not getting diabetes and other benefits of losing weight would be enough. I have no idea what motivates me. I have lost weight and been close to my target twice in my life. The only common ground was that I loved my job ... hmmm

But I have two motivational events in my future. I am working to lose 10 to 20 pounds to ...
1. Look good on the Cruise and party with my family on March 13. Being about 9 weeks away is perfect... not too long, not too short.
2. The Durham Great Human Race is scheduled for March 29th, just 2 weeks after the party. I really really really want to lose 10 to 20 pounds in order to improve my time from last year. I think I can shave 3 to 7 minutes off if I lose weight by running and improve my running by losing weight.
